# The Terminal

> Sterling's price targets, macro views, fresh trade ideas, unusual trading activity and live headlines on one screen.

## What the Terminal shows you

* **Sterling Price Targets** — the names Sterling expects to outperform and underperform over the next three to six months, with the upside or downside to each target.
* **The Soros Rubric** — the macro hypotheses Sterling is tracking, with the evidence for each and the counter-view.
* **Trade Ideas** — investment ideas, long or short, spread across themes, each with its thesis, the upside or downside to target and its performance so far.
* **Unusual Trades** — a live, sortable table of notable options and order-flow activity.
* **Trending Topics** — what the Trading Pit is talking about right now.
* **Breaking News** — the latest headlines in a ribbon, over a searchable live feed.

## Using the Terminal

### Sterling Price Targets

Sterling Price Targets has two tables: **Outperform** and **Underperform**. Both cover the next three to six months. Each table lists the five names where Sterling's price target is furthest from the current price. Each row shows the **Price Target** and the **Upside** or **Downside** to it. Select a row to open the company's [Overview](/companies/company-overview).

### The Soros Rubric

The Soros Rubric holds Sterling's current macro view. Up to two hypotheses appear as tabs. Each tab names the asset class, the time horizon, the direction and the hypothesis. Below the tabs are the supporting metrics, the argument and the counter-view. A closing "Watch" line names what would change the view. Select a tab to switch between hypotheses.

### Trade Ideas

Trade Ideas shows six ideas spread across themes. Each card gives the thesis, the direction with a price target and horizon, and the upside or downside to it. **Performance** is the idea's return since it was published, measured at the live price. Select a card to open the idea in [the Analyst](/analyst/what-is-the-analyst) with its full context. Select **Discover** at the top of Trade Ideas to open the full [Trade Ideas](/trade-ideas/what-are-trade-ideas) page.

### Unusual Trades

Unusual Trades is a live table of notable options and order-flow activity. Each row shows the **Action**, the **Amount** and the **Type** of instrument. New trades appear at the top as they happen. Type a ticker in **Search by ticker** to show one name. Select a column header to sort by it. Select a row to open the trade in [the Analyst](/analyst/what-is-the-analyst) and ask why it stands out.

### Trending Topics

Trending Topics lists the topics the Trading Pit is discussing most right now. Select a topic to open the Pit filtered to it. Select **Open Trading Pit** at the top of Trending Topics to open the full [Trading Pit](/trading-pit/what-is-the-trading-pit).

### Breaking News

Breaking News shows the latest headlines in a ribbon, with a live feed below it. The feed can be filtered by **Source**, **Category** and **Company**. Type in **Filter news…** to search the headlines, or add a filter from the same field. The feed opens with the **Source** filter set to Sterling Media. Select **Clear** to remove the filters and see every source. Scroll down to load older stories. Select **Scroll to top** to return to the newest.

## If something goes wrong

| "No price targets available." | Sterling has no current targets to show | Check back later |
| "Failed to load price targets." | The tables didn't load | Reload the page |
| "Failed to load macro take." | The Soros Rubric didn't load | Reload the page |
| "No trade ideas available." | No ideas have been published yet | Check back later, or open the Trade Ideas page |
| "No unusual trades for “…”." (with the ticker you typed) | Nothing matches that ticker | Clear **Search by ticker** to see the full feed |
| "No trending topics yet." | The Pit has no trending topics right now | Check back later |
| "No breaking news at this time" | The headline ribbon has no breaking headlines right now | Check back later |
| "No news found for “…”" (with your search text) | Nothing in the feed matches your search | Select **Clear** to remove the search and filters |
| "No news available" | Nothing in the feed matches the filters set | Select **Clear** to remove them |

## Frequently asked questions

### Why does Breaking News show only Sterling Media?

The feed opens with a **Source** filter set to Sterling Media. Select **Clear** to remove it and see every source. You can also add other sources from **Filter news…**.

### How current are the price targets?

Each target is as of Sterling's latest [research report](/companies/reading-a-research-report) on that company. It changes when a new report or update is published, not on a fixed schedule.

### Where do the Outperform and Underperform names come from?

They are the companies where Sterling's price target is furthest from the current price, in each direction.
